Key Questions for a Breeder

 Breeders should be health testing their breeding stock before completing any matings. PennHip, OFA Heart, OFA Eyes, OFA Elbows, OFA Patellar Luxation, NCL, and DSRA are recommended for Cane Corso. They should be able to provide proof of all completed testing. 

RED FLAG: A breeder that does not health test and isn't able to provide proof of any health testing or is breeding dogs under 12 months of age. Merely taking the dog to vet is NOT health testing. 

 You will want to know where the puppies are raised. In the house or outside, or a combination of both. As well if they raise the puppies with a program such as Puppy Culture & AviDog.

RED FLAG: Breeders that raise their puppies in unsanitary conditions, do not seem knowledgeable about puppy rearing, and/or will not provide photos or videos of puppies. 

 This is a question that breeders love to answer and is important for you to ask. You want a breeder that is going to likely produce the dog that is the best fit for you. So, the breeders’ goals should be what you are looking for. 

RED FLAG: Breeders who do not have set goals, prioritize breeding to the standard to contribute to the betterment of the breed, and/or only breeding their pets together for fun. 

 Not all breeding stock needs to be tiltled, however, a breeder that actively titles and proves their program is a great asset. 

RED FLAG: Breeders that claim they do not title their dogs because of politics, location, lack of funds, and/or claim that their dog’s temperament is great as a pet only. 

 A breeder’s contract should protect the breeder, the buyer, AND the puppy. They should support you and the dog at any time for any reason, including the buyer being able to return the dog at any point. 

RED FLAG:  Breeders that sell puppies without contracts and refuse to accept a returned puppy at any point of the dog’s life for any reason. Ethical breeders care about each and every puppy and would never turn away one of their own in need.

If customers can’t find it, it doesn’t exist. Clearly list and describe the services you offer. Also, be sure to showcase a premium service.
